The Role of the Institute Representative by Jamie Chisholm
The Institute for Advanced Financial Education (The Institute) is a Canadian designation body for financial services practitioners. The Institute manages the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Certified Health Insurance Specialist (CHS) designations.
As a volunteer for The Institute since 2012, I am mandated to promote the CHS and CLU designations and act as a liaison between The Institute and its designation holders; present certificates and awards to designation holders; participate in quarterly update calls; and promote and monitor other chapter programs such as the deHaerne Trophy and the J.G. Taylor Award.
In 2014, I became The Institute Representative on the Advocis Greater Vancouver Board of Directors. This role allows me to update the Board on Institute mandates and work with them on acknowledging CLU and CHS advisors in our region. At our fall 2014 quarterly breakfast, we presented certificates and commemorative pins to 15 longstanding CLUs, who had each held the designation for 25 – 40 years. We also presented the Dunstall award (CLU) and CFP award to the top BC students for 2013.
I enjoy my role as The Institute Representative and the interaction I have with advisors in the region. If you have any questions about my role, The Institute or the CLU and CHS designations, I encourage you to contact me.
